There are three different ways you can join the exciting and important volunteer work of the Friends of the Wellington Botanic Garden – become a Member, a Guide, or a Host.
There are options for all ages, availability, and knowledge of the Garden.
Become a Member
With an annual payment, you can support our initiatives, receive our E-newsletters, and attend our annual general meeting.
Time commitments are low for Members, and you receive free access to all guided walks throughout the year!
Become a Guide
If you’ve got a flair for walking and talking, join our team of Guides. Volunteer Guides provide guided walk services for Wellington Botanic Garden, Bolton Street Cemetery (Heritage Rose Collection), and Truby King Garden.
Guides help with visitors during peak seasons, monthly scheduled walks, and privately booked tours.
We offer thorough training before a Guide receives their badge, and continued training during the year.

Become a Host
We are always on the lookout for new friendly Botanic Garden-lovers to join our team of enthusiastic Hosts, especially through the cruise ship season (Nov-Apr).
Hosts welcome visitors to the Garden and provide basic directions and tips on the best things to see in the Garden and the city. You don’t need in-depth knowledge of plants or gardening, but a little helps. We provide training to get you started.
Hosting commitments are 2.5-hour sessions during the cruise ship season and are arranged to suit your availability. We provide training and uniforms.
